CHENNAI: M. Shyam Sundar’s all-round show (six for 33 & 21 n.o.) and S. Senthil Kumar’s unbeaten 44 (75b, 2x6, 5x4) were instrumental in Aruna scripting a two-wicket win over Jolly Rovers in the V.A. Parthasarathy Memorial limited overs cricket tournament here on Thursday. Opting to bat, Rovers could manage only 186. Ajay Kudua was the top-scorer with 61 (90b, 4x4). Medium-pacer Shyam’s heroics put the skids on Rovers. In reply, Aruna scraped through with 5.2 overs remaining. Wicketkeeper-batsman Senthil (who had earlier taken four catches) and Shyam guided Aruna home with an unbeaten 80-run stand in 23.3 overs at a time when it was struggling at 107 for eight. In another match, Vijay — leaning on R. Prasanna’s 183 (150b, 15x4, 5x6) and N. Einstein’s unbeaten 95 (95b, 3x4, 1x6) — defeated Indian Bank by 81 runs and collected the bonus point. Medium-pacers P. Amarnath (four for 35) and K. Kiran Kashyap (four for 22) ran through Grand Slam’s batting order to inflict a three-wicket defeat on India Pistons. Friday is a rest day and the quarterfinals commence on Saturday. The scores: Jolly Rovers 186 in 45.1 overs (Ajay Kudua 61, M. Shyam Sundar six for 33) lost to Aruna 187 for eight in 44.4 overs (S. Senthil Kumar 44 n.o.). Points: Aruna 4, Rovers 0. Vijay 335 for four in 50 overs (S. Suresh 46, R. Prasanna 183, N. Einstein 95 n.o.t) bt IB 254 in 47.3 overs (E. Suresh 51). Vijay 5, IB minus 1. Alwarpet 346 for six in 50 overs (Huzefa M. Patel 85, V. Maaruthi Raghavi 44, Ashwin Venkataraman 64, T. Dhanasekar 64) bt Globe Trotters 232 in 48.3 overs (X. Thalaivan Sargunam 55, Praveen Srivatsan 45). Alwarpet 5, Trotters minus 1. India Pistons 110 in 36.5 overs (P. Amarnath four for 35, K.
