CHENNAI: Leaders of several Hindu organisations assembled in Chennai on Friday to mark the commencement of the first Hindu Spiritual and Service Fair.

The three-day Spiritual and Service Fair, an exhibition of books and activities, was inaugurated by Nityananda Paramahamsa of Nithayananda Dhyanapeetam. Thirty-three Hindu organisations took part in the fair, which is being organised by Jaigopal Garodia Vivekananda Vidyalaya and sponsored by the Global Foundation for Civilizational Harmony, Chennai Chapter.

In his benediction, Shri Nityananda said that Hindu dharma has its soul in giving. It has a great vision that every human being has to be a contributor to have self-esteem in society.

“Instead of making people contribute, we promise them what we will give. The attempt on the part of rulers, administrators and religious leaders should be to make the people think what they can contribute…It is wrong to sit up on money. Create something and employ some people,” he said.

Shri Nityananda said that Hindu organisations have been carrying out charitable work for a long time without publicising it in open.

“If you want to do something, set up a school and allow it to be run by professionals. Don’t do it with ulterior motive and if you have a motive declare it and stay upright,” he added.

Atmashraddhananda, Vedanta Kesari Editor, said peace and prosperity of humanity lies in appreciating and accepting the universal message of Vedanta, which harmonises reason and religion, science and spirituality and work and worship.

Mitrananda, Chinmaya Yuvak Kendra International Director and the Fair Organising Secretary said that the fair would enable the participants to exchange ideas. It will be held on bigger scale in different parts of the country by other chapters of Global Foundation for Civilizational Harmony

Dayananda Saraswathi of Hindu Acharya Sabha said the fair provided a platform for Hindu organisations to exhibit their spiritual and service activities.
