Manmohan has many more years of service: Sonia

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: With Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s heart surgery leading to speculation on a vacuum at the top, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has sought to end the buzz, saying he has many more years of service to the party and the country.

In her letter in the party’s monthly mouthpiece ‘Congress Sandesh,’ she said: “Our Prime Minister has had to undergo a major heart surgery. The surgery has been successful. He will soon be able to resume his normal duties.”

Noting that Dr. Singh was always known “for his wisdom and sagacity, for his humility and simplicity, for his quiet but firm resolve, and his sobriety and dignity,” Ms. Gandhi said he led the UPA government with great distinction. “He has many more years of service both to our party and to our country. We look forward to his continued leadership.”
