One lakh identity cards distributed to new voters

CHENNAI: A total of one lakh elector photo-identity cards have been distributed to new voters in Chennai city limits by the District Election Office through booth-level officers.

These are cards of those whose names have been included up to November 2008. Three lakh more cards are expected to be delivered at the doorstep of the voters shortly. The cards of those whose names were included in December 2008 and January 2009 would be delivered by the end of this month. Around 10,000 cards are being distributed daily.

According to a Corporation release, the booth-level officers would also visit the homes of those whose names are included in the list but their photos have not been attached correspondingly. The officers would provide an intimation slip and 001B forms to be filled in and submitted to them.

Voters can contact the respective Deputy Tahsildars for any details or clarifications.
