Orissa BJP Minister resigns

BHUBANESWAR: Orissa Higher Education Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Samir Dey resigned from the Cabinet on Saturday following his party’s debacle in the Cuttack Municipal Corporation polls.

The BJP won only two seats in the Corporation having 54 wards, while the Biju Janata Dal headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik secured an absolute majority winning in 37 wards.

The BJD and the BJP had contested separately.

Mr. Dey, who represents Cuttack in the Assembly, said that he resigned owning moral responsibility for the party’s poor show.
