Fine art: Cultural Affairs Minister M.A. Baby takes a look at exhibits in the Mural Art Museum set up in the renovated Kollengode House in Thrissur on Sunday.

Thrissur: Cultural Affairs Minister M.A. Baby has inaugurated the Mural Art Museum set up in the renovated Kollengode House here on Sunday.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister said there were lapses in the preservation of art. “Our approach to preservation and promotion of art should change. Works of art make ideal gifts. Presenting paintings to newly married couples would be better than giving them gold,” he said.

UNESCO guidelines

He said that the State should follow UNESCO’s guidelines for earmarking a certain percentage of public funds for promotion of culture.

Therambil Ramakrishnan, MLA, presided. Mayor R. Bindu, Kerala Sahitya Akademi secretary Purushan Kadalundi, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, secretary, Prabhakaran Pazhassi, Corporation councillor Rajan Pallan and Archeological Survey of India Superintending Engineer M. Nambirajan were among those present on the occasion.
