SAI triumphs in style
Bangalore: Sports Authority of India (SAI) emerged champion in the12th Field Marshal Cariappa memorial hockey tournament that concluded here on Sunday.
In the final at the KSHA Stadium, SAI defeated Canara Bank 5-1.
Nilesh opened SAI’s account in the second minute and later Deepak struck a brace (18th and 30th) to help the team gain a 3-0 lead.
Canara Bank’s Somanna sounded the boards in the 45th minute to reduce the margin.
However SAI continued to surge ahead as Mudappa (46th) and Nithin Thimmaiah (51st) put the match beyond Canara Bank’s grasp.
Special awards: Best goalkeeper: F. Kujur; Fullback: P.C. Bopanna; Half: Nagasenu.
