Municipal College posts win

GWALIOR: A goal each by Walter Minz and Deepak Kullu helped Municipal College, Rourkela, to a 2-0 victory over GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sudhar, Ludhiana, in a Group ’D’ league match of the 16th SAIL Nehru Champion Colleges hockey tournament at the Railway Stadium here on Sunday.

Sandeep Kumar Lakra of the Rourkela team was adjudged the ’man of the match’ and presented Rs.1,000.

In Group ’A’, B. Ashwin struck twice in guiding Faculty of Arts and Education, Annamalai University, to a 4-3 victory over Shri Meghbaran Singh Mahavidyalaya, Gazipur.

M. Pradyumna and R. Chandra Kumar scored the other goals for Annamalai which led 3-0 at halftime.

Amarnath Ram, Abhishek Singh and Vikash Sharma scored the goals for the Gazipur team. Ashwin was declared the ’man of the match.

In Group ’B’, the match between M.G. Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi and GNK Khalsa College, Yamuna Nagar, ended as a 3-3 draw. Md. Javed Ali (2) and Vivek Parkash Singh scored the goals for the Varanasi team which had led 2-0 at halftime. Naveen Kumar (2) and Surinder Singh revived the fortunes of the team.

Naveen Kumar earned the ’man of the match’ award for infusing life into the contest with two goals in the space of two minutes.
