Latest fashions at racecourse

BANGALORE: As the horses were being assembled for yet another race at the Bangalore Turf Club, it was time for many to show their latest winnings as well as their fashionable selves to one another.

The Poonawalla Bangalore Derby on Sunday, one of the most important horse-races in Bangalore, saw those present showcasing their latest fashion trends and accessories. Formal wear was the dress code of the event, as women in saris and men in linen suits thronged the guest area.

High hopes

While many people came to the racecourse hoping that their favourite prize-winning horse, Fleeting Arrow, would again take home the trophy, others were wishing that “Icebreaker” would outrun last year’s champion.

At four o’clock, silence hit the club’s conference hall as the Poonawalla Bangalore Derby race began. Two minutes later, a deafening noise hit the hall as the Icebreaker won the race to take home the trophy for the first time.

Cheers of joy engulfed the hall along with sadness for those who had hoped of a win for Fleeting Arrow.
