BANGALORE: Emotions ran high as award-winning Kannada actor Tara spoke of her association with senior citizens, here on Sunday.

Growing old could be very hard, she said while talking on “Twilight in an Artiste’s Life,” — a dialogue and discussion organised by Dignity Foundation, a non-governmental organisation that takes care of people with dementia and other old-age-related problems. “But if we spend quality time and share our everyday experiences with the elderly, the process of growing older may become easier,” said the actor, who won recognition for her performance in Haseena.

Sharing her experiences, Tara said she still lived in an 18-member family where as many as six were aged over 60. She said, “I always share my experiences with the older members in the family.” Unlike many older-generation film actors, younger ones need to manage their finances and career while they are young itself, she felt. To a question on language and culture, she said: “Parents play a crucial role in moulding the character of children. One should not impose language or culture, which must come from within.”

On her role as a Muslim in Haseena, she said, prior to the movie, she had also acted in Munnudi as a Muslim woman. He said the role gave her strength. “I regret not acting in a Puttanna Kangal film,” she added.

Pushpa Varadarajan, linguist, and former senior manager at Vijaya Bank, who also spoke, said people should adopt a positive attitude towards old age and continue to remain active through creative thinking.
