Staff Reporter
PUDUKOTTAI: Cadres of the Communist Party of India (CPI); Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK); Dalit Panthers of India and Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) took out processions at a couple of centres in the district on Saturday, expressing their solidarity with the Tamil Protection Movement and demanding immediate ceasefire in Sri Lanka.
Wearing black badges and carrying black flags, they sought the Central government’s immediate intervention to save the lives and property of the Tamils in Sri Lanka.
In Pudukottai, the district secretary of the CPI S. P. Muthukumaran led the procession. They marched down from the Old Bus Stand and reached the Thilagar Thidal through thoroughfares.
The CPI MLA from Alankudi S. Rajasekaran administered a pledge to the cadres at Thilagar Thidal. The district secretary of the MDMK Chandrasekaran; the State deputy organiser of the PMK, Saravanadeva, and the State vice-president of the DPI Kalaimurasu were among those who participated.
In Aranthangi, the processionists, led by the CPI taluk secretary A. Rajendran, took out a similar procession from the Check Post to the Anna Statue.
The State deputy organiser of women’s wing of the PMK, Seethalakshmi, was among those who spoke.
