KOCHI: The former Supreme Court Judge, V.R. Krishna Iyer, has said that he consulted the former Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, K. Narayana Kurup, whenever he had a medical problem. “He is Doctor Kurup,” said the former Supreme Court Judge about Justice Kurup whose book ‘Ladies and Gentlemen’ was released here on Sunday by Minister for Education M.A. Baby. The book is a collection of speeches by Justice Kurup over his long judicial career and deals with a wide variety of subjects, including the Kochi Metro Rail project. Justice Krishna Iyer said that Justice Kurup was a jurist, a medical professional and a philosopher all rolled into one. ‘Ladies and Gentlemen’ was a great book, he said. The Minister for Education who handed over the first copy to J. B. Koshy, Acting Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court, said that the book offered a wide view of the world and that Justice Kurup displayed an astounding depth of knowledge in a variety of subjects. Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy presented a copy of the book to K. R. Gouri, the sister of the former President, K.R. Narayanan. Mr. Chandy recalled how Justice Kurup solved a sensitive problem relating to a burial ground in a village near Kottayam with his wisdom. Justice Koshy said that he and Justice Kurup had been friends for about 40 years. The book released on Sunday was a great contribution to the cause of society, he said.
