BANGALORE: Cautioning students to be wary of terror creeping onto campuses, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has emphasised the need to inculcate patriotism among students. Speaking at the Vemana Jayanthothsava Conference 2009 organised by the Karnataka Reddy Jana Sangha here on Sunday, Mr. Yeddyurappa said the duty of students did not end with acquiring degrees. “They should also learn the qualities of patriotism,” he said and appealed to students to ensure that the Mumbai incident was not repeated. Apparently referring to the opposition to the Government’s anti-terror drive on campuses from the Congress and the Janata Dal (S), which parties had dubbed the campaign as an “effort to communalise students”, Mr. Yeddyurappa sought to remind the Opposition parties that they should play a responsible role in democracy. The function was attended by Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Kasu Venkatakrishna Reddy and former Minister H.K. Patil. Sri Vemananda Swami of Harihar taluk in Davangere district was present.
