Four arrested, let off on bail

It is a case of alleged molestation of women


Bangalore: Four men, including the owner of a video parlour, who were arrested by the Cubbon Park police on Sunday in connection with the alleged molestation of three women in front of a pub here on Friday, have been let off on conditional bail.

Though two police officials told The Hindu that the accused were let off as the offence was bailable, an official connected with the case said: “We were under to pressure to let them off.”

Senior police officials, who only gave the names of the accused, however, refused to give other details.

The accused have been identified as Ravi Mallayya (38), a resident of 13th Cross in Vyalikaval, Mohan Basava (22) of Chamarajapet 12th Cross, R. Vijay Kumar Ramalingaraju (25) and Shivu Rajashekar (20), residents of 12th Cross in Vyalikaval. The main accused Ravi Mallayya is said to be a realtor, who also owns a video parlour on Rest House Road.

“We arrested them around 3.30 a.m. on Sunday and released them on personal bonds of Rs. 10,000 each with sureties,” said Jagadish, Inspector of Police, Cubbon Park Police Station.

Cases under Sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 354 (assault or criminal force against woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Indian Penal Code have been booked against the accused that provides for imprisonment of a minimum three years, an official said.

The accused have lodged a counter complaint stating that the women had damaged their car and had lodged a false complaint against them.
