BANGALORE: Mantis, a new Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) developed by BAE Systems, will be making its international debut at the Aero India 2009. United Kingdom-based BAE Systems is a global company engaged in the development, delivery and support of advanced defence and aerospace systems. BAE Systems will have its biggest ever presence at the Aero India, an event BAE Systems has attended every time since its inception. The company is taking a large stand-alone pavilion, not a booth inside the halls. Mantis as well as Herti, one of the world’s first fully autonomous UAV, will grace the area outside the BAE Systems pavilion at the Yelahanka Air Force Station. BAE Systems will display products from across its aerospace capabilities, including Typhoon, Hawk, and some products not displayed in India before such as special seating for helicopters that protect aircrew for spinal injuries in crashes and hard landing. The MantisBAE said Mantis was another important step forward in the development of Unmanned Autonomous System (UAS) capabilities. The Mantis benefits from low-cost advanced construction techniques developed on earlier BAE Systems UAS programmes and provides for a wide range of “plug and play” systems and equipment, as well as enabling flexible external stores carriage. A triplex flight control system will give high system reliability and integrity.
