VISAKHAPATNAM: The Rs.95 crore new modern airport terminal with night lading and 24-hour operational facilities is set for inauguration on February 28. With this the efforts of Rajya Sabha member and former Union Minister, T. Subbarami Reddy will bear fruit. Provision of additional manpower for its 24-hours operation was required. For this clearance from the Ministries of Finance and Defence was needed. Mr. Subbarami Reddy, along with the Minister for Civil Aviation, Praful Patel, met the External Affairs Minister, Pranab Mukherjee, holding additional charge of Finance and the Defence Minister, A.K. Antony and the latter had agreed to sanction additional man power for operating the Visakhapatnam Airport around the clock. Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy is also likely to participate in the inaugural function. The date of inauguration would be either February 27 or 28. According to D. Varada Reddy, president of Air Travellers Association (India), round the clock operations would commence from the date of inauguration. The much-awaited new terminal building would have the capacity to handle 700 passengers per hour. It would have three aero bridges, four conveyor belts and 20 counters for airlines. The new airport with adequate security facilities will be fit for all weather operations. It would have customs and immigration facilities and space for parking as many as 600 cars.
