ZAGREB: Croatia’s Marin Cilic won the €450,000 ATP Zagreb Indoors tennis tournament with a 6-3, 6-4 defeat of his fellow-countryman Mario Ancic here on Sunday. Second seed Cilic, who did not lose a single set throughout the entire week, dominated as Ancic, the seventh seed, simply did not have an answer to his forehand. The 20-year-old was adding this to the titles he won last month in Chennai and New Haven final last year. In the first set Cilic took two of Ancic’s serves for a 5-1 lead. Although he lost one serve he won the set smoothly. In the second set Cilic led 2-0 with Ancic levelling to 2-2. The ninth game proved decisive when Cilic broke to go 5-4.
“The beginning of the match was maybe decisive. If Marin’s game was just a bit weaker I might have had a chance. I can only congratulate him,” Ancic, 24, commented.
