NEW DELHI: General Motors on Tuesday launched special edition of its compact car Spark and announced plans to introduce the sedan, Cruze, and a mini car this year. The U.S. automaker aims at including India among the top five markets globally in next five years. The special edition hatchback, Spark Muzic, is priced at Rs. 3.27 lakh and comes with added features. “With the kind of response we are getting from the domestic market, we expect around 10 per cent growth this year,” said General Motors India President and Managing Director Karl Slym after launching the car here. Last year, the carmaker had registered a 9.4-per cent growth in sales. Stating that the economic downturn had not impacted the company’s investment plans in India, Mr. Slym said: “We have fixed the target of $1 billion sourcing from India by 2010 and it is well on track.” According to General Motors’ Vice-President (Global Sales, Service and Marketing) Jonathan Browning: “India, with its robust economy, is one of the fastest growing markets for automobiles. Going forward, India can be one of the top five Chevrolet markets globally in the next five years.”
