Harinath, coordinator of Bioinformatics Centre at Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences and the director of JB Tropical Diseases Research Centre (JBTDRC), Sevagram, saw tremendous potential for the science of Bioinformatics in playing a major role in the future development of science and technology. Delivering the keynote address at the second national workshop on ‘Perspective trends in Bioinformatics’ organised by the SVIMS University’s Department of Bioinformatics here on Wednesday, the expert on ‘Medical Informatics’ spoke on the vast scope of the field and said the transformation of medical records from hard-bound files to computer-based gave a permanent lease of life to data. Girinath G. Pillai, a software professional, was roped in to speak on the computer-related aspects of bioinformatics. SVIMS Dean B.Vengamma appreciated the department for bagging the prestigious grant of Rs.35 lakh from the Union Department of Biotechnology.
