Rajasthan seeks additional funds for education

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: Rajasthan has called upon the Centre to extend the much talked about Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to the 12th Five Year Plan and sought allocation of additional funds in view of the State’s difficult terrain, besides asking for revision of the Centre-State share in expenditures from the existing ratio of 55:45 to 65:35. Addressing the 55th meeting of the Central Advisory Board of Education in New Delhi on Tuesday, State Education Minister Bhanwarlal Meghwal suggested that an integrated fund be established for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and welcomed a recent proposal for its extension to secondary education.

Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh presided over the meeting. Besides Mr. Meghwal, Principal Education Secretary R.P. Jain and Higher and Technical Education Secretary Ravi Mahur represented Rajasthan at the meeting.

Mr. Meghwal demanded that new model schools and girls’ hostels be opened under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in all the 237 panchayat samitis in the State.
