JK Tyre National championships from Feb.14

Chennai: Come Saturday, and it will be time for auto-racing fans to savour the delights of another exciting season of the JK Tyre National Championships.

The first event of the series is scheduled to be held at the MMSC Track at Irungakattukottai this week-end.

The galaxy of drivers in the prestigious Formula Rolon is headed by defending champion, Gaurav Dalal, who will be sporting the colours of Red Rooster Racing with Sarosh Hataria and Akhil Khushiani.

The LGB Swift category features several young and upcoming drivers headed by emerging star Gokul Krishna, who will be representing Team Wallace Sports along with Pragyajothi from Guwahati, K. Chetan, Gautam Parekh and Prithiveen Rajan while the TVS Girling Racing will field Sudarshan Rao, Vishnu Prasad, Akhil Devrag and Prashanth. Meco Racing will put on the track Samyuk Shah, J. Mitra, Karthik Krishna, Ameer Beg and Sandeep Kumar.

There will also be some focus on the JK Enduro Championship to be run with Formula LGB Hyndani cars. The races will be of a 45-minute duration with one driver per car. Here too, the quality of competition is expected to be very high considering the proficiency of the drivers like Sudanand Rajan, Vishnu Prasad, Chittesh, Ajay Kini, Narendran, Akhil Devrag, Arvind Srinivasan, and Shravan. Teams in the fray are the last year’s champion Wallace Sports, Team Rams Racing and Meco Racing. The endurance race is slated for February 14 at 3 p.m.

An added attraction this time is the Super Saloons Class.

The JK Tyres Super Bike Cup (600cc and 1000cc machines) will form another part of the exciting agenda.

The calendar: Round 1: Chennai (Feb.14, 15); 2. Coimbatore (June 13-14), 3. Coimbatore (July 4-5); 4. Chennai (August 1-2); 5. Chennai (Sept.12-13); 6. Chennai (Oct. 3-4).
