‘Speedy completion of projects is the need of the hour’

New buildings for 64 panchayat unions at Rs. 96 crore

HOSUR: Though the government officials and elected representatives are seeking more and more projects every day, the speed shown while demanding the projects are not shown while implementing them, said K. Ashok Vardhan Shetty, Principal Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, the sGovernment of Tamil Nadu, here on Thursday.

New library

He was here to inaugurate the new library built in memory of the late K. Appavupillai and Ponnammal in Masinayakkanapalli, near Hosur, and release the calendar on behalf of the Krishnagiri District Historical Centre.

He asked the officials to expedite the development projects in the district.

“The government is ready to sanction any number of projects. But the officials should complete them ahead of the scheduled time,” Mr. Shetty said

He said that new buildings were being constructed for 64 panchayat unions each at a cost of Rs. 1.5 crore in the State.

All the panchayat union buildings would have two floors with all modern facilities.

The Principal Secretary asked the district administration to identify the old and dilapidated panchayat union buildings for renovation or demolish them and construct new ones. The government was ready to sanction funds for the same.

Tamil books

He appealed to the board members of Appavupillai-Ponnammal Trust to provide Tamils books in addition to the Telugu books at the library. He also asked the panchayat president to install a computer in the library with internet facility for the benefit of the local youths and students.

Water

Hosur MLA K. Gopinath asked Mr. Shetty to initiate steps to bring water to Ramanayakan Lake in Hosur from Kelevarapalli Dam.

Former MLA K. Manoharan, Chairman of the Appavupillai-Ponnammal Trust and president of Krishnagiri District Historical Centre, welcomed the gathering.
