Convention of management association begins Stress on innovation, creativity KOCHI: Right leadership and clarity on the roles of top-level managers would be of utmost importance for companies to deal with the chaotic situations created by the slowdown in economy, said Sunil Alagh, Chairman of SKA Advisors, Mumbai. He was inaugurating the 28th annual management convention of the Kerala Management Association here on Thursday. Elaborating on the theme ‘emerging world order – managing challenges’, he said Indians being a different group of people, it would not be right to believe that what was happening elsewhere would repeat in the country. The fast moving consumer goods sector was growing at about 20 per cent despite the economic downturn. “Strategies need not be changed as soon as something goes wrong. Instead, organisations will have to look at strengths and opportunities. Innovation and creativity will be able to contribute significantly to the wellbeing of organisations. A proper assessment and repositioning, apart from a persistent approach are essential. Organisations will do well by keeping off unachievable objectives,” he said. In his keynote address, P.Thiruvengadam, head of Strategy and Operations, Deloitte & Touche Consulting India Private Limited, said an accelerated economy had created extreme inter-dependence. He pointed out that India had the competitive advantage of managing constraints. Aligning assets and positioning for emerging markets would be advisable strategies. A flexible response to market opportunities and utilising better talent would be appropriate. K.K. Jayan, president, KMA, said Kerala had a track record of practising robust management systems. Students from Harvard had recently made a study on the successful management practices followed in the State. Anwar T.Dole, president, Institute of Management of Sri Lanka, and Nizar Kochery, president, Qatar Indian Management Association, spoke. S.Jayathilakan, chairman, convention committee, welcomed. S.Gopakumar, honorary secretary, KMA, proposed a vote of thanks.
