Exercise on to certify fitness of EVMs

Staff Reporter

SANGAREDDY: The district administration is getting ready to set the electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the forthcoming general elections likely to be held in April or May.

This is part of the arrangements being made for the elections. Around 25 personnel came from the Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL), Hyderabad, to erase the old data from the EVMs. They are being assisted by the district administration for packing and loading them to the destinations. Medak is the first district in the State selected to take up such exercise.

The old data such as candidates contesting, total votes polled, polled for each candidates was cleared from the hard disk of each balloting unit. They are also checking the working condition of the balloting unit in detail. “We are holding mock polling for each EVM before certifying as ready for use. However, the problems found with systems are more of mechanical than of technical,” said S. Ravindranath, member of the ECIL team.
