Dialysis can provide quality life, says expert

HYDERABAD: Imagine surviving on a dialysis for 25 years and then undergoing kidney transplantation to become, arguably, the longest surviving patient on renal replacement therapy in the world. Yes, this is possible and the person who made this possible recently attended the Southern chapter conference of Indian Society of Nephrology (ISN).

A dermatology professor at St. Johns Institute of Dermatology in London, Robin A. J. Eady, while participating in the conference held at Kanya Kumari, said that for scores of transplantation and dialysis patients, what really matters is the quality of life, after surviving transplantation.

ISN chief and vice-principal of Gandhi Medical College Pradeep Deshpande, who delivered the presidential address, said that preventive steps were key to fighting chronic kidney ailments.
