ZP approves surplus budget

Kakinada: East Godavari Zilla Parishad has approved a surplus budget of about Rs. 13.43 lakh for the financial year 2009-10 with the revenue and expenditure estimates pegged at Rs. 150.63 crore and Rs. 150.50 crore. The ZP general body has passed a resolution to that effect.

It is anticipated that the government will give funds for ZP’s engineering wing to the tune of Rs.116.94 crore and revenue under general funds will amount to nearly Rs. 12.38 crore. Other revenue components are education grant of Rs. 8 crore, Rs. 8.7 crore from the 12th Finance Commission and Rs. 1.3 crore from the State Finance Commission. A sum of Rs. 2.65 crore is to be provided to the ZP for spending on employee salaries.

On the expenditure front, a sum of Rs. 1.75 crore has been earmarked for Scheduled Castes, including Rs. 1.16 crore to be spent on development works in the SC habitations. Similarly, Rs. 69 lakh have been allocated for Scheduled Tribes (ST). Out of it, Rs. 46.5 lakh will be utilised on development of dwellings of ST. ZP chairman Ch. Venugopala Krishna said priority was accorded to education and improving living conditions of SC and STs.
