4 held with counterfeit currency

CHENNAI: The Counterfeit Currency Wing of the Crime Branch CID on Friday arrested four persons in connection with the seizure of counterfeit currency notes of Rs.500 and Rs.100 denominations.

According to official sources, a special team arrested S. Ameer Amsha (48) of Sivakasi and G. Manoharan (45) of Madurai near the bus stand at Virudhunagar. They were in possession of 80 counterfeit currency notes of Rs.500 denomination and 135 notes of Rs.100 denomination.

Based on information provided by the duo, the team went to Sivakasi and arrested B. Syed Akbar (45) and P. Vellaisamy (48) and seized the same number of counterfeit currency notes from them. Investigation revealed that a native of Sivakasi had supplied the notes. Efforts are on to apprehend him and locate the source of printing. — Special Correspondent
