MUMBAI: Mahindra United forwards Chidi Edeh and Sushil Kumar Singh came within striking range of the Jagatjit Cotton Textiles goal, but messed up one chance each as the 16th round of the ONGC I-League ended in a goalless draw. Both teams have 17 points and a lot of worries on the goal-scoring front. Steven Dias lobbed on the run from along the goalline in the 13th minute, but Sushil Kumar Singh who arrived in time to connect the controlled tap with a header, only managed to direct the ball wide.Douhou Pierre set up Chidi with a clever pass and the burly Mahindra forward broke into the rival goalmouth. JCT custodian Karanjit Singh, left with no option but to rush out, timed his charge well and found the ball striking his body. Both teams, fielding tall and burly players, found it tough to control the ball on the bouncy Cooperage surface. Mahindra succeeded in getting the ball into the opponent’s half with ease, but failed to break down the layers of defenders. A powerful first-time shot by Chidi after darting into space on the left was disallowed for off-side. — Special Correspondent
