Madurai in last four

Coimbatore: Despite a fighting 53 by Rishab Bafna, defending champion and host Coimbatore conceded a first innings lead of 10 runs to Madurai in the TNCA under-14 inter-district cricket quarterfinals at the SNR Sons College grounds here on Saturday.

The scores (quarterfinals): At Salem: Kancheepuram 370 for nine in 90 overs & 108 for six in 40 overs bt Salem 87 in 50.3 overs (D. Kamesh 35, J. Deepak four for 49) & 20 for two in 11 overs. At Coimbatore: Madurai 242 bt Coimbatore 232 in 85.5 overs (Abhinav 35, Sanjay 49, Rishab Bafna 53).

Jeevanandam shines

Left-arm spinner Jeevanandam’s five for 4, including a hat-trick enabled Rainbow Jeeva CC score a convincing seven-wicket win over Tirupur CC in the CDCA-Sri Ramakrishna Mills Twenty20 cricket tournament at the TNAU grounds on Saturday.

The scores: Arumugam CC 180 for five in 20 overs (K.N. Rangarajan 68, R. Shanmugasundaram 55, Venkatesh three for 24) bt Arumugam XI Patriots CC 169 in 19.5 overs (A. Ganesh Kumar 42, N. Senthil Kumar 32, M.N. Hari Kumar three for 31, R. Suresh Kumar three for 30).

Tirupur CC 31 in 9.3 overs (Jeevanandam five for 4) lost to Rainbow Jeeva CC 32 for three in 4.3 overs.

GKD triumphs

GKD Matriculation HSS clinched the overall championship for both boys and girls in the CCRT31 District-level junior athletic meet at the Nehru Stadium on Saturday.

Nagapattinam posts win

Host Nagapattinam defeated Tiruchi by virtue of its first innings lead and entered the semifinals in the TNCA under-14 inter-district cricket tournament on Saturday.

The scores: Nagapattinam 238 & 99 for four in 22 overs (Pradeepraj 36) vs. Tiruchi 85 in 46.1 overs (Udayaraj three for 11).
