Show of spirit: The 100-metre relay organised as a part of ‘Sports for the special category children’ in progress on Saturday.

CHENNAI: For T.S.A. Prithvi Raj, winning has become a habit. Notching up the best individual player award at the ‘Sports for special category children,’ he gleefully hands over the trophy to his trainer.

“My teacher says I am good at cricket-ball throw event. I have won this a couple of times and would like to continue winning every year,” says the student of the Spastics Society of Tamil Nadu.

He participated in the sports meet for special children, organised here on Saturday by the Mylapore Academy. The events, grouped under five categories, included 100-metre relay, cricket-ball throw, shot put, walk with callipers and crutches, and music corner.

Speaking at the valediction, Deputy General Manager of State Bank of India K.T. Ravindran said corporate social responsibility should be understood and taken up by all companies.

They must encourage special children to take part in social activities and sports events, which would build confidence among the children and develop positive attitude.

The event was co-organised by State Bank of India and Y.M.C.A. College of Physical Education.

Spastics Society of Tamil Nadu, Taramani, won the overall shield under ‘Spastics’ category. The St. Louis Institute for the Deaf and Blind won the trophy in the ‘Visually challenged’ category and Dr.M.G.R. School for Speech and Hearing Impaired bagged the overall prize under ‘Hearing impaired’ category. Students of Life Help Centre walked away with the trophy, competing under ‘Orthopaedically challenged’ category.

Vice-president of the Mylapore Academy N. Sugalchand Jain presided. Principal of Y.M.C.A. College of Physical Education Sheela Stephen, president of Rotary Club of Madras Mylapore Uptown T. Ramesh and president of Lions Club of South Madras N. Bhavani Shankar spoke.
