Laurels galore: Film producer Tammareddy Krishnamurthy receiving the Raghupati Venkaiah Award for 2007 from Home Minister K. Jana Reddy.

HYDERABAD: Eighty-four-year old film producer Tammareddy Krishnamurthy, known for films like ‘Dharma Dhaata’, ‘Bangaru Gaajulu’ and ‘Lakshadhikaari’ received the Raghupati Venkaiah Award for 2007, while former Union Minister and veteran director Dasari Narayana Rao got the NTR Award for the same year at a glittering function here on Saturday evening.

The overpowering influence of the legendary NTR was felt on an evening when the Lalitha Kala Thoranam in the pristine environs of the Public Gardens was chock-full of film enthusiasts and the who’s who of the industry. Mr. Krishnamurthy produced films with NTR, Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Sobhan Babu on his Ravindra Art Pictures, while Mr. Narayana Rao directed films like ‘Bobbili Puli’ and ‘Sardar Paparayudu’ in NTR’s avatar as a film star.

Mr. Narayana Rao spoke of his association with NTR and said long before anyone used the words ‘social justice’, he said they were found in the film ‘Manushulantha Okkate’ which he directed and was released in 1976, starring NTR.

Contribution

The duo’s contribution to the film industry was recognised in the form of the eminent awards. These awards apart, 19 people got the ‘Pratibha Rajiv Puraskarams’ from the hands of Ministers K. Jana Reddy (Home), Anam Ramnarayan Reddy (Information & Public Relations and Cinematography) and Konathala Ramakrishna (Commercial Taxes).

Others present at the function were producers D. Rama Naidu and AP State Cultural Council Chairman Dharmavarapu Subramanyam.

The glamour component was made up with the presence of Charmme, Tamanna, Ramcharan Teja, ‘Victory’ Venkatesh and Jagapathi Babu.
