Train services revised due to derailment

CHENNAI: Southern Railway has announced cancellation/partial cancellation/diversion of trains in view of the derailment of Howrah-Chennai Central Coromandel Express on Jajpur-Keonjhar Road on Friday.

A Southern Railway press release announced a revised pattern of train services: The Chennai Central-Howrah Mail scheduled to leave Chennai at 11.35 p.m. and the Howrah-Chennai Central Coromandel Express scheduled to leave Howrah at 2.50 p.m. on Saturday and Coromandel Express, which is to leave Chennai at 8.45 a.m. on Sunday, have been fully cancelled. Howrah-Chennai Coromandel Express, which left Howrah on February 13 and was scheduled to arrive here on Saturday, was partially cancelled between Jajpur-Keonjhar Road and Chennai.

Chennai-Howrah Mail, which left here on Friday, Dibrugarh-Chennai Egmore Express scheduled to arrive here on Sunday and Chennai-Howrah Coromandel Express, which left here on Saturday were being diverted via Cuttack-Angul-Sambalpur City-Jharsuguda-Tata and Kharagpur; Thiruvananthapuram-Shalimar Express, which left Thiruvananthapuram, on Saturday will run via Vizianagaram-Titlagrah-Ranipur-Jharsuguda-Tata and Kharagpur; the Howrah-Chennai Mail, which left Howrah on Friday, was being diverted via Sambalpur-Rayaguda-Vizianagaram and will arrive on Sunday; Guwahati-Ernakulam Express which left Howrah on Friday and arriving at Ernakulam on Sunday and the Patna-Ernakulam Express, which left Patna on Friday, and will be arriving on Sunday will be operated via Nagpur-Ballarshah-and Vijayawada and Howrah-Mysore Express, which left Howrah on Friday, will run via Nagpur-Ballarshah-Kharagpur.

A passenger special train with 23 coaches, carrying the stranded passengers of the derailed train, will arrive at Chennai Central around 4 a.m. on February 15.

There would be no pantry car coach in the Chennai-Howrah Mail which would leave here on February 15.

Three additional sleeper coaches would be attached to Kanyakumari-Howrah Express of February 14 from Chennai Egmore.

One additional sleeper coach would be attached to the Thiruvananthapuram-Howrah Express leaving Thiruvananthapuram on February 14 from Chennai Central.
