“Leaders backing Sri Lankan Tamils facing threats”

Special Correspondent

Ramadoss blames it on infiltrators, seeks security for leaders

S. Ramadoss

VILLUPURAM: Leaders in Tamil Nadu espousing the cause of Sri Lankan Tamils are facing threats from infiltrators, said S.Ramadoss, founder of the Pattali Makkal Katchi, on Saturday.

Law enforcing authorities should not only keep a vigil on such elements but also provide adequate security to the leaders, Dr Ramadoss told a press conference at Thailapuram.

He alleged that Pakistan’s ISI sleuths with Sri Lankan passports and members of the Karuna faction (a rival group to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) had crossed over to India and were stationed at places such as Egmore, Kozhikode and Bangalore, targeting the supporters of Eelam Tamils.

Dr. Ramadoss said that the Sri Lankan intelligence and ISI personnel were hand in glove and it had come to light that recently, over 2,000 Islamic youths from the eastern province of Sri Lanka were trained in a Pakistan camp.

The group might pose danger to India and vital installations such as power stations at Koodankulam and Kalpakkam.

Dr. Ramadoss said Sri Lanka seemed to be getting closer to China and Pakistan.

The PMK leader urged the Centre to order Sri Lanka to immediately end the war.

If the latter did not do so, it should withdraw its naval ships, satellites, surveillance aircraft and the technical hands from the island nation.

The Central government should also urge Sri Lanka to allow representatives of the United Nations, the International Red Cross Society and foreign journalists to the warfront so as to ascertain the real situation in Tamil areas.

Dr. Ramadoss said that he would be writing letters to Sudarssanam, Congress legislature party leader, and K.V.Thangkabalu, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee leader, to prevail upon United Progressive Alliance Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and External Affairs Pranab Mukherjee to end the genocide in Sri Lanka.
