Collectorate will be functioning from makeshift location Tirupur: After much speculations and suspense, the date for the inaugural of Tirupur district, which is being carved out of Coimbatore and Erode districts, have finally been announced. Official sources told The Hindu that the Minister for Rural Development and Local Administration, M.K. Stalin, will inaugurate the district here on February 22. The venue for the inaugural function will be finalised on February 16. Under the jurisdiction of the new district, which has been reorganised from Coimbatore and Erode districts, there will be two revenue divisions (Tirupur and Dharapuram) and six taluks (Tirupur, Avinashi, Palladam, Dharapuram, Kangayam and Udumalpet). For the time-being, the district Collectorate will be functioning from the makeshift location identified on the Regulated Market premises situated along Tirupur-Palladam road till the Integrated Collectorate complex planned on an area of 119 acres is constructed later. A space of 54,000 sq ft on Regulated Market premises, spread over 33 buildings/blocks, is being refurbished by the Public Works Department (PWD) to accommodate about 40 district-level officers and 500 staff meant to be posted at the Collectorate. New CollectorRevenue officials quoting Government sources said that the Special Officer appointed for the formation of Tirupur district C. Samayamoorthy, a 2002-batch IAS officer, would assume charge as Collector and District Magistrate for the district. “The official announcement on this posting is expected to come within a day or two,” sources added.
