Stop misuse of Rajiv Arogyasri

Rajiv Arogyasri (RAS) is a novel scheme launched by the State Government to provide super speciality medical treatment to the poor. Unfortunately, the rich and influential undeserving lot is hijacking the scheme. Of the total beneficiaries, I can say, at least 50 per cent are undeserving ones, at the cost of the genuine beneficiaries. The State Government is requested to conduct an impartial survey into the financial background of the beneficiaries of the scheme so far. Action has to be initiated against those who misused the scheme and the amount spent on them by the Government should be recovered. It will help the scheme serve its real purpose.

Launch literacy drive

It is sad to note that as per the officials records itself, the percentage of dropouts and unregistered names of children in schools in our State is on very high side, as compared to other States. It is needless to mention that for the overall development of any State, literacy plays a pivotal role. In this connection, it may be recalled that the Rajasthan State Government launched a literacy drive with the help of a Sweden-based organisation. Since the scheme is proved to be successful there, I request the Andhra Pradesh State Government to implement similar scheme here too.

Concession for senior citizens in buses

The Indian Railways has provided concession in travel fare for senior citizens. Even banks and post offices are kind enough to give one per cent more interest to senior citizens on their fixed deposits. The department of Income Tax too provided consideration for those above 60 years of age in filing the tax returns.

But, the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has provided only the reservation of two seats in each bus for the senior citizens. Can’t the APSRTC officials announce concession on travel for senior citizens? I request the authorities concerned to look into the issue.

Congrats to Sania, Bhupathi

We must congratulate Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi for winning the historical Grand Slam.

This Mixed Double event can be hailed as one of the greatest sports event and a milestone for the Indian sports.

Both these sports persons won international acclaim.

The duo defeated Andy Ram and Nathalic Dechy in the straight sets in Melbourne. In the semi-finals, they defeated Iveta Benesova and Lukas Dlouchy of the Czech Republic.

With this, Sania became the first Indian woman to win a senior Grand Slam title in the game of Tennis.
