Sericulture farmers urged to seek guidance for better productivity

Sericulture Commissioner Harmander Singh visits mulberry fields and silk worm rearing units

State government provides subsidy for installing drip irrigation systems for mulberry cultivation


SALEM: Sericulture Commissioner Harmander Singh reviewed the progress of various sericulture development activities being carried out in Omalur block recently.

Visit

He visited the mulberry fields and silk worm rearing units established in different parts of the block.

Interacting with the farmers, the Commissioner asked them to seek the guidance of sericulture officials to improve productivity and quality.

The State government provides subsidy for taking up mulberry cultivation, establishing rearing sheds and purchasing various equipment for rearing silk worms.

A sum of Rs. 15,000 per acre is being provided as subsidy for installing drip irrigation for mulberry cultivation.

Farmers can avail themselves of the subsidy for taking up cultivation on 2.5 acres.

The department would provide all necessary assistance that would be needed for the farmers to take up sericulture activities, he promised.

Assistant Director of Sericulture Gopalsamy and senior officials accompanied the Commissioner.
