PUDUCHERRY: It will be more than a cultural fiesta at the festival of Mahe, “Mayyazhi Mahotsavam.” The four-day festival will open on February 19. The theme of the fete will be ‘Against terror.’ Home Minister E. Valsaraj, also chairman of the committee for the festival, told mediapersons on Friday that Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam would inaugurate the festival. The programmes would be held at College Grounds, Mahe. Lieutenant Governor Govind Singh Gurjar would be the chief guest at the valedictory function on February 22. Union Minister of State for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs V. Narayanasamy and Speaker of the Legislative Assembly R. Radhakrishnan would also participate in the valedictory function. Mr. Valsaraj said that the government had allotted Rs.20 lakh for the festival, which would be organised in coordination with the Tourism Department. “We are planning to administer an anti-terrorism pledge and light candles,” he said. The festival would be dedicated to those who sacrificed their lives for national integrity and battled divisive forces. Fete de Mahe consists of cultural performances including music, song and comedy shows by renowned artists.
