MANGALORE: The first two days of the ongoing youth festival, “Engineer 2009”, attracted participation of over 600 students from 65 engineering colleges at the National Institute Technology - Karnataka (NIT-K), Surathkal. One of the events, Robhatah Workshop, introduced to beginners the fascinating world of robots. Concepts involving mechanical, electronic, and C-programming were explained in this workshop. The day-long workshop helped the participants in getting an insight into the working of robots. The programme “Perfect Machine” provided an opportunity to the participants to build robots to specifications. RV College of Engineering, Bangalore, won the first place. BVB CET, Hubli, emerged second. AnimationVanitha Rangraju-Ramananan, who worked on the 2002 movie Shrek, which won the Oscar in the Best Animated Feature Film category, and Allen Ruilova from Dreamworks, delivered lectures on animation and the opportunities available for engineers in the field. Mylaswami Annadurai, Project Director, Chandrayan-1 and 2, dwelt on various stages of design and manufacture involved in the Chandrayaan project. More than 240 participants turned up at 8 a.m. for a workshop on computer networks, organised by Cisco Systems. . Marathon, an event with five rounds of testing the overall analytical and programming abilities of participants, and Srishti, a competition in presenting business plans that are economically viable and socially beneficial, were part of the programme. Students from the host college won the event.
