VISAKAHAPATNAM : The Capital IQ, which supplies financial information to more than 2100 clients the world over, has sponsored a gold medal for the bright MBA students of Andhra University. This was done with a view to encouraging students to take up careers in commerce and management. This was announced at a press conference jointly addressed by Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University B. Satyanarayana and Managing Director of Capital IQ Pratap C. Aditya held at the seminar hall of the Commerce and Management Studies Department on Sunday. A cheque for Rs.2 lakhs had been formally handed over to Prof. Satyanarayana by Mr. Pratap C. Aditya for sponsoring the award by the university. Mr. Aditya said that the Capital IQ with more than 2500 employees, of whom 10 per cent are experienced CAs, would have regular interactive sessions with AU and share knowledge with the students and faculty. “We would assess and guide students to improve their talent. An MoU had been signed for this with the university authorities”, he said. No pink slip problemAnswering questions, Mr. Aditya said that his company has no ‘pink slip’ problem and despite the number of its clients coming down from 2700 to 2100, it would recruit 300 to 400 employees by June this year. He said that the attrition rate had also come down from 25 to 15 per cent, thanks to the economic meltdown. Thanking the Capital IQ for sponsoring the gold medal, for the award of which guidelines would have to be prepared, Prof. Satyanarayana urged students to work hard and improve skills. They have to face competitions at the global level, he pointed out. Last year 32 students were recruited by the Capital IQ, but this year it had come down to 11, he pointed out. He wanted students who were recruited by various agencies, to be the ambassadors of AU. Head of the Department D. Prabhakara Rao said that it was a land mark in the history of the department. Placement Officer B.Mohan Venkataram, who proposed a vote of thanks, said that the process of campus recruitment was in progress and hoped that more would be selected by the Capital IQ.
