Man held for murder

CHENNAI: Police on Sunday arrested a man who was on the run after allegedly murdering a woman at Basin Bridge September last.
Police said Ravi alias Ravi Kumar (26) of Thiruninravur murdered Poongothai (48) at her house in the Basin Bridge Railway Quarters on September 5, 2008 . Special teams headed by R. Chandran, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Pulianthope, were formed. “We questioned over 300 people before zeroing in on the accused, who was known to have had a relationship with the victim. Our team went to Vijayawada, Puducherry and parts of Tamil Nadu in the last few months,” Mr.Chandran said.
Ravi was arrested at Avadi. He confessed to having committed the crime following the victim’s refusal to give him Rs 2,000.
