Need for greenhouse gas reduction stressed

Tirupur: A one-day awareness programme on carbon credit organised by Textiles Committee of Union Ministry of Textiles in association with Tirupur Export Knitwear Industrial Complex (TEKIC) here on Saturday, deliberated the importance of greenhouse gas reduction.

Resource persons from Mumbai explained the salient features of Kyoto Protocol formulated a decade ago under the framework of United Nations for Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emission.

The greenhouse gases covered under the protocol include carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydroflurocarbons, perflurocarbons and sulphur hexafluoride.

The participants were also told about the importance of carbon trading. G. Venugopal, cluster development executive, Textiles Committee, elaborated the subsidy assistance extended by agencies for the projects undertaken by industrial units for reducing emission of greenhouse gases.
