Top naxal leader surrenders

HYDERABAD: Konapuri Ilaiah alias Sambasivudu, secretary of the State committee of CPI (Maoist), surrendered to the police on Sunday evening.

Sambasivudu who carried a reward of Rs. 10 lakh on his head belongs to Nalgonda. He was involved in several offences, prominently the killing of Congress MLA of Makthal C. Narsi Reddy at Narayanpet in Mahabubnagar district on August 15, 2005. A top police official said the government would take a lenient view towards him in the criminal cases that he was involved in since he offered to surrender.
