Arun bowls Friends RC to facile win

Coimbatore: K.P. Arun picked four for 17 in Friends Recreation Club’s 48-run win over Vivekananda Seva Trust Cricket Club in the CDCA-Sri Ramakrishna Mills Twenty20 tournament at the CIT grounds here on Monday.

The scores: RS Puram 126 for seven in 20 overs lost to CIT 128 for eight in 19.2 overs (Rama Seshan 42), Friends RC 149 in 20 overs (Sivakumar 53, Sathish 47) bt Vivekananda Seva Trust CC 101 for nine in 20 overs (K.P. Arun four for 17), Jolly Rovers CC 84 in 16 overs (Srinivasan three for 20) lost Coimbatore Raiders 85 for one in 14.3 overs (S. Vinodh 46), Red Diamonds CC 149 for eight in 20 overs bt Kaleeswar CC 116 in 18 overs (Vinodh Kumar three for 23).

Avinash makes merry

Athlete-turned cricketer A. Avinash struck a fine 80 as Sri Ramakrishna Mills Sports Club scored a convincing 178-run win over Arumugam Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-CDCA first division league for the Pricol Trophy at the SNR Sons College grounds on Sunday.

Earlier, S. Vinoth’s 81 enabled Coimbatore Raiders Cricket Club notch up a five-wicket win over Sri Ramakrishna Mills Cricket Trust.

The scores: First division (Pricol Trophy): Sri Ramakrishna Mills CT 259 for nine in 50 overs (Siddharth 82) lost to Coimbatore Raiders CC 262 for five in 48 overs (S. Vinoth 81, E. Ravi Prasanna 55), Sri Ramakrishna Mills SC 334 for eight in 50 overs (Huzefa M. Patel 42, A. Avinash 80, S.P. Saravana Kumar 51, Gowjit Subash 41, K. Nazer 45) bt Arumugam CC 156 in 24.5 overs.

Second division (Unidriveline Trophy): Sir Robert Stanes MCC 153 in 47 overs (Marudachalam four for 13) bt Tirupur CC 92 in 13 overs (Mohan Kumar 40), Tirupur Textiles RC 201 for nine in 50 overs (Sridhar Venkatesh 47 not out, Chenniappan 45) lost to Suryabala Cricketers 204 for nine in 49.5 overs (Kathirvelu 55, Jayakumar four for 23).

Third division (Servall Trophy): Kaleeswara CC 84 in 26.5 overs (Dharmendra Prasad four for 23) lost to PSG Tech 85 for five in 16.5 overs (Arun four for 21).

Selection trials

Trials to select the CDCA senior team for the inter-district S.S. Rajan Trophy will be held at the RKS Trust nets at the SNR Sons College grounds on February 21 at 9.30 p.m.

Vashishta prevails

Vashishta Pawar, with 41 points, clinched the Elgi Trophy (0-18) in the CGC golf tournament played on a Stableford format at the Coimbatore Golf Club course in Chettipalayam, near Coimbatore, on Sunday.

P.R. Ramakrishnan, with 39 points and a better second half, wrested the second spot.

The results: Elgi Trophy (0-18): 1. Vashishta Pawar 41 pts, 2. P.R. Ramakrishnan 39 (better second half). Manchester Cup (19-28): 1. S.A. Sridhar 38 pts, 2. Dr. S. Raghavendra Rao 37. Gross winner: Vignesh Ranga Rao 31 pts.

PSG Tech triumphs

Host PSG College of Technology scored a hard fought 2-1 win over Kongu Engineering College of Technology (Perundurai) in its final league and emerged champion of the Major Dhyan Chand Memorial Trophy hockey championship at the PSG Tech grounds on Sunday. Kongu Engineering, which clinched the second spot, took home the Claudius Trophy.

Sachin Sandeep was declared the man of the match and Shankar of Kumaraguru College of Technology the ‘best player’.

Gunasekaran, captain of the 1977-78 Madras University team and an alumni of PSG Tech, gave away the prizes.

The results: League: Park Engineering 0 drew with Kongu EC (Perundurai) 0, PSG Tech 2 (Kalidas, Praveen Kumar) bt Kongu EC 1 (Poornesh). Final standing: 1. PSG Tech, 2. Kongu EC, 3. Park EC.

Suresh Fives wins

Suresh Fives (Coimbatore) maintained a clean league slate and finished for the top position in the district-level fives ball badminton tournament at Sundarapuram on Sunday.

The results: League: Suresh Fives bt NRBC (Nanjundapuram) 29-11, 29-26, Suresh Fives bt Soya Sakthi 29-28, 29-14, Suresh Fives bt Himalaya SC (Tirupur) 23-29, 29-27, 29-25, Soya Sakthi bt Himalaya SC 29-16, 29-10, Soya Sakthi bt NRBC 29-16, 29-10, Himalaya SC bt NRBC 29-27, 29-16.
