GUNTUR: Four Congress corporators and one TDP corporator have been elected to the Guntur Municipal Corporation standing committee in the elections held on Monday. The elections, however, had their share of drama with Sk. Saida from Congress getting elected on a lottery basis after a tight finish. The term of the standing committee is one year. Mohammad Noorjahan (Cong) representing division no 6, Golusu Saila Kumari (Cong) (11), Sk. Saida (28), Ravela Satyanarayana (6) and Alapati Gopalakrishna (TDP) have been elected as members of standing committee. The election of Saida was marked by high drama as he had tied with Independent Dodda Jyothi with five votes each, while TDP’s Dasari Jyothi could not secure a single vote. Amidst cross voting from TDP members, a lottery was taken to decide the winner according to G.O M.S No 142 and Saida emerged as the winner. Mayor and Standing Committee Chairman Rayapati Mohana Sai Krishna, deputy mayor Sk. Ghouse congratulated the new standing committee members.
