Letters to the Editor
This refers to the editorial “Celebrating Darwin” (Feb. 16). If Galileo proved the theory of the helio-centric solar system of Copernicus by telescopic observation and other experiments, Darwin’s theory of evolution stands vindicated by the discoveries of the genetic code and the DNA structure. What about the evidence contained in the excavation of fossils of extinct species, which are a definite proof of evolution? It is mind-boggling that despite the existence of such unimpeachable evidence, the intelligent design lobby is successful in keeping the common sense of the gullible on permanent hold. Kasim Sait, Chennai Science is only an observation of some facts. The nature is so powerful that all that the scientists (of whom I am one) claim to have invented/discovered are virtually nothing. Many great scientists have admitted this. Of course, Charles Darwin had the right to say what he thought was right and his supporters have the right to endorse him. But no one has the right to say that he alone is right or, more important, what the others say or do is wrong. D. Darwin Albert Raj, Kalpakkam
