Website has details of over 20,000 small time businesses in various parts of the city Mechanics, plumbers, carpenters, furniture works, cooks, tutors find space on the website HYDERABAD: Choked drainage pipe coupled with a truant plumber could be the peskiest situation one can encounter. Knowing that there are 250 plumbers across the twin cities and finding the contacts of at least four or five in the proximity could bring great relief during such times. WebsiteA website www.GreenMango.co.in, launched a year ago addresses this very need. Thanks to it, details of over 20,000 small time businesses in various parts of the city are now a click away. Fifty kinds of trades including mechanics, plumbing, carpentry, driving, electrical works, furniture works, graphic arts, as also cooks and tutors find space on the website, with address and contact details of each provider. “During my stint with an NGO, I noticed that there was a huge gap between the users and providers of such services. Main problem of the providers is absence of growth for want of marketing. The website will market their services and help them grow,” sad Yasmina McCarty, one of the two co-founders. Lanes and by lanes of Hyderabad were combed for gathering the data, and the process will continue in future too, she said. Providers may register free of cost for a basic display, or pay an annual fee ranging from Rs.49 to Rs.249 to make use of additional features such as display of photos, and video clips. For users, well, having so many services at one place itself is a bonanza. In addition, they can look for star ratings in order to choose the best. On the other hand, they can rate a provider for the service. Ms. McCarty plans to extend the website to include all South Indian metropolitan cities and later to cover the whole country. The website could go international too, she says. But why green mango? Ms.McCarty drew her inspiration from a vendor of raw mangoes at Philippines where she spent her childhood.
