City ‘space architects’ win Asian finals

Design unique space settlements according to the proposals asked for



Winners all: Little Flower High School team.

HYDERABAD: Rithvik Ramdas and Abhinav Ram from the Little Flower High School have won the finals of the II Asian Regional Space Settlement Design Competition, as part of a team from here called ‘Space Architects’.

The Asian regional was held between January 26 and 28, 2009 at the Om Shanti Retreat Centre at Gurgaon, New Delhi.

Held in two stages, the competition is about designing fully-functional and unique space settlements according to the proposals asked for.

Proposal

In the first step the students prepared a proposal and submitted it by November 2008. Several schools in India participated in this stage of competition.

Under the guidance of Rev. Bro. Jaico Gervasis, our Principal, the students work for long hours after school hours. By mid-December 2008, the results were declared and Little Flower High School was invited to participate in the Asian finals.

Ten schools from India (only two from South India – Bangalore and Hyderabad) and five schools from Pakistan were chosen for finals.

At New Delhi, the participants were given 21 hours to complete a proposal for a Lunar Orbit Space Settlement, Arial.Little Flower High School was teamed with Vivek High School, Chandigarh and Aitchison College, Lahore, Pakistan to form a company called Rockdonnell, that presented its its proposal along with other companies on January 28, before a panel of judges including Richard Edwards and Anita Gale, founders of the space settlement design competition, U.S.A.

The 12-member team included seven boys and five girls – G. Vivek, Chandrasekhar, Chaitanya Vishal, Mudit Jain, Srikar Raghotham, Amogh, Akshit Naresh, T. Aiswarya, V. Kinnera, Reshma Thomas, Shruti and Vaishali.

They were accompanied by Udbav Anand, a former student and Ann Oommen, a staff member at the Little Flower High School.
