Dormitory for industrial workers hailed

Tirupur: The allocations for providing Value Added tax (VAT) refund concession, establishment of a dormitory for industrial workers in Tirupur and for launching a new insurance scheme for labourers in the Tamil Nadu budget presented in Chennai on Tuesday evoked a positive reaction in industry circles here.
Representatives of labour unions told the The Hindu that the budgetary proposal to set up a dormitory for accommodating 1,000 workers in the city would be beneficial to the predominant migrant workforce in the knitwear industry here.
Similarly, the allocation of Rs. 200 crore to launch a new insurance scheme titled Chief Minister Kalaignars Insurance Scheme for Life Saving Treatments to provide free specialist treatment up to Rs one lakh covering 51 life threatening diseases to labourers attached to various welfare boards was welcomed by the industrial workers.
A Sakthivel, president, Tirupur Exporters Association, said the announcement to introduce facility for payment of electricity bill online would be very helpful for the industries. S. Dhananjayan, member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and an expert on forex derivatives, termed the budget as industrial friendly and labour- welfare oriented.
