Funds to be used to reduce technical, commercial losses Data centre for ESCOMs to be established BANGALORE: The Union Government has sanctioned Rs. 388.34 crore to the State for covering 99 towns under its Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (RAPDRP), for strengthening the distribution system. Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, Minister for Energy K.S. Eshwarappa said the funds would be utilised for reducing aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses of the distribution companies in the State. The AT&C loses in the State has been estimated at 30 per cent. The Energy Department would establish a data centre close to Bangalore for all electricity supply companies (ESCOMs), including disaster recovery centres, geographical information system (GIS) mapping of assets, call centres for attending consumer complaints, and information technology applications for meter reading, billing and collection, he said. The first stage of the RAPDRP in the State would be implemented for three years from April. The funds would be used for launching IT initiatives to convert ESCOMs into modern dynamic entities for detection of thefts through auditing, the Minister said.
