KOCHI: The Water Adalat on Tuesday disposed about 98 per cent of the total 1,301 cases registered in the district. A total of 1,169 cases were settled, and the Kerala Water Authority is expected to collect Rs.3 crore as revenue. The adalat was the last opportunity for the people to settle their long-pending billing disputes or water availability issues. For the two per cent cases that have not been settled at the adalat, the Authority will move for disconnection and revenue recovery measures, said V. K. Girijavallabhan, Accounts Member, KWA. Some people had also immediately remitted the sum at the respective offices, he said. People have time till March 15 to remit the charges due to them. The various division offices of the Kerala Water Authority in Ernakulam had received a total of 1,459 complaints, most of them from the Corporation area. According to Mr. Girijavallabhan, who was heading a higher-level desk at the Adalat, this was the third largest adalat arranged by the authority among all the 14 districts. The largest response was in Kollam, where over 1,500 cases were settled. “We have had about 50 per cent recovery at the adalat,” said Mr. Girijavallabhan. Some of the non-domestic users were given a one-time settlement offer and in most cases, interest charged on the domestic users had been waived.
